What a difference 6 weeks of hyprbaric therapy makes! Arden is beginning to process language….He is learning or beginning to understand what we say to him… for instance, when he wants something and we say NO to him, he immediately gets mad or whines… Also, when I am in the bathroom with him (after he uses the toilet), I will ask him “who is going to flush the toilet” and he will then flush the toilet. At first I thought it was just a “rote behavior” but sometimes he is already on his way out the door and I ask him, and he will turn around and go back in to flush. We are amazed and pleased at how he seems to finally be understanding some of what we say to him. He is also doing well in speech therapy. No words yet, but making new sounds. We both feel that only the addition of HBOT is responsible for his increased awareness of what we are saying to him. He is making great eye contact also and beginning to copy what we do. Yesterday, he was at my house and he was playing in the dirt, so I got his pail and shovel for him, and started digging with his shovel and putting it in the pail. He took it from me and copied what I did. Also, I was raking the yard and I gave him a rake and he copied me. He has been much happier, and is almost completely toilet trained during the day. He will now go into the bathroom on his own when he needs to use the toilet and rarely has an accident when he is awake. We are still using overnight pull ups in the evening but this is a huge breakthrough for him and we are delighted.
Over all, his progress seems to be leaping forward of late.
